He started his career as an auditor and consultant. He was Big Bon Group’s financial controller until 2002, when he became the Chief Financial Officer for Valletta Cruise Port. As his skills asserted themselves in management, marketing and strategizing, he was promoted to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Valletta Cruise Port in 2014. Subsequently, Mr. Xuereb joined Global Ports Holdings in 2016 as its COO. These holdings are imperative to the growth of Malta, both financially and in terms of global recognition. Valletta Cruise Port and Global Ports Holdings bring people from across the globe to view Malta’s history, wealth and culture, while contributing to its financial growth. Under Xuereb’s guidance, infrastructure in the Valletta port has also boomed, as funds are allotted to uphold the historical structures while also spreading business along the promenade, making the Valletta waterfront the sight that it is today. He is a member of the Board of Governors for the foundation of Valletta European City of Culture 2018, which has been instrumental to the continual growth of Maltese business and recognition around the world. Since Valletta’s Grand Harbour is one of the most important ports in Europe, the initiative of Mr. Xuereb’s team has strongly increased the flow of passengers. Like the myriad of cultures and people who have utilized Maltese ports, Mr. Xuereb is contributing to the modernization of Malta’s harbours while retaining and renovating the historical ingenuity that is present here. He has also forged ties with gaming authorities in Malta to enhance the experience of cruise patrons while opening new venues for Maltese businesses and for the Maltese people to enjoy the fruits of their conjoined labour.
